Euxton Villa emerged victorious from a hard fought pre-season encounter at Church Lane as a much changed Millers side, featuring several trialists, came up short. After a busy pre-season schedule The Millers boss Chris Baguley made a number of changes to his side due to player availability, the midfield on show for example being unrecognisable from that seen so far in pre-season, and to have a final look at players on trial before making a decision on their future.
The Millers started the brighter, Chad Whyte going close on two occasions, before a defensive error presented Villa with an opportunity 20 yards out and the attacker made no mistake. They doubled their lead early in the second period, a speculative long range effort looping over The Millers keeper and into the net. The home side rallied but although they created several opportunities Chad Whyte's close range header with 15 minutes to go proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
